what peaches and what penumbras!

I've always wondered how people in New York get their grocery shopping done. I've never seen anyone carry bags of produce on the train (usually anything in bags looks ridiculously sketchy and/or smells of feet and hobo). Once in a while, a Trader Joe's or Dean and Deluca bag pops up, sometimes Whole Foods, but never enough to suffice for an entire week, even an entire day's, worth of food. Do they all take cabs? Do they get them shipped to their doors?

Because I'll be alone at home for most of August, I think I'll still be going into the city every few days for a.) a study break, b.) shopping, and most of all c.) deciding whether or not I could really spend the next year or so of my life living and working there. And after blowing half a grand on 7s and dresses yesterday, I'm wondering if I could really deal with the $25-30 grand salary and skimping on even the things I take for granted nowadays. Being independent, on the other hand, really would be pretty sweet. I'm not that into money anyway.

These days, I've just been tutoring and hanging around, trying to get reading done. The worst part about tutoring is just how much time I have to just sit and think while the kids are doing their assignments. I'm also really lost whenever they ask me for college advice because I really feel that I don't have anything constructive to offer. For me, the choice to apply to Princeton was pretty easy considering I knew I wanted to go into creative writing, but now, seeing my sister shop for schools, I realize that the decision isn't so simple for most people.

One more thing I have to do before the summer is to start shopping for cars and finding something within my budget and/or put my pride aside and ask my parents for a little financial support. I hate feeling claustrophobic, and being on campus definitely makes me feel a bit restricted, even with the train system. When I want to go somewhere, I just want to go. Unfortunately, if I even want to think about getting an apartment in NY next year, I'm going to need to start saving, which is really really hard for me lol.

And last but not least, I really want to visit the Phipps Conservatory to see the Gardens and Glass exhibit (open till Nov 11th). I'm not usually into this artsy crap, but from the pictures I've seen, it looks pretty damn amazing. The bad news? It's all the way in Pittsburgh...and I hate driving. May have to look into bus/train to get there.
